Volunteer Training Classes

All Families First volunteers attend the two part training: Why Families First? and Developing Therapeutic Relationships. Additional training is provided depending upon area of interest.

Why Families First?
Child abuse and neglect has reached epidemic proportions and is passed from one generation to the next. Learn to recognize the family indicators of abuse and neglect, how we protect children by strengthening families and what you can do on a personal and community level to stop this vicious cycle.

Developing Therapeutic Relationships
Learn to create meaningful relationships with children and to provide the corrective steps necessary to help children along the path of positive development.

Building on Parent Strengths for Facilitators and Educators
Staff and volunteers will learn the role they take in providing support to parents during times when parenting gets tough. This session addresses the use of groups, identifying strengths and underlining parents’ own successes. Family Support Services (Support Line, Parent Support Groups, Parent Education Classes and the Children's Program) provide a framework for parents to protect their children and strengthen family relationships

Family Supportline Worker Training
Learn the importance of empowering parents in strengthening family relationships, how to provide a listening ear, and how to determine appropriate referrals.

Children’s Group Leader Training
Receive training on how to create a healthy, accepting atmosphere where children can experience success and receive positive reinforcement.
